Summary

Andrew Zimmern, host of Bizarre Foods, maintains that the coolest food gadget he’s ever seen is a sharp knife. Although many of these new smart kitchen products are considered frivolous, many others can make a world's difference in getting dinner on the table on time in a working family’s life. It opens up the possibilities of lessening food wastes since refrigerators can keep you up-to-date on expiring foods, while having appliances cook in the background can allow working parents to spend more time outside of the kitchen.
Many smart kitchen appliances have yet to reach broader customers such as in the restaurant industry. This can be due to the relative newness of it all, with many of the products not outfitted to work for someplace larger than a typical home. However, this is not to say that it will never happen. Just like how one never thought a smartphone could connect to the refrigerator, the use of such technology can be in the near future for places outside the family kitchen.
